  • Work Safe, Stay Safe by MirvacRecent highlights 

    • We launched our new HSE Strategy to further enhance our safety culture with a number of new initiatives ranging from improving our near miss and hazard reporting to further develop our HSE Leadership capability.
    • Our HSE management system was audited and certified to comply with the below standards and covers all national operational business units at Mirvac.
    • Mirvac’s HSE management system was chosen as a Finalist in the WorkCover NSW, SafeWork Awards 2012 for successfully rolling out a multi-faceted safety management system that is adaptable to all Mirvac’s businesses, which include commercial and domestic construction, shopping centre management, building design, landscaping, real estate sales and marketing.
    • Mirvac was nominated as a finalist in the 2013 Australasian Reporting Awards for Occupational Health and Safety Reporting.
    • During Mirvac’s Employee Engagement Survey HSE scored as the top performer with a score of 92% ‘Positive Perception’ of HSE within Mirvac.

  • Central to the HSE management system is the demonstrated commitment from Mirvac management both publicly and internally at multiple levels.

  • CASE STUDY: Working at height on 8 Chifley

  • Working at height on 8 Chifley

     

    During the design phase of 8 Chifley, working at heights was identified as a high-risk work activity which presented a number of challenges due to its unique design. As a result, our Design team, in collaboration with our Construction team, conducted a risk assessment and developed standard risk control measures and Safe Work Method Statements to ensure that all working at height activities could be undertaken safely. During the Construction of 8 Chifley, there were no injuries associated with the working at height activities.

    Potential hazards:

    • Working at heights
    • Falling objects
    • Plant operation

     

     

    Control measures:

     

    • Harness use – mandatory height safety training for personnel using safety harness (certified every six months) and inspected visually prior to use. Workers to work in a fall restraint (not fall arrest). All work coordinated so that workers remain behind work-right fencing or inside EWP basket (never exposed to a live edge).
    • Elevated work platform use – all operators to have completed relevant training. Structural load ratings and plant weights to be provided for operation near edge of slab (not within 1m). Ticketed operator to be positioned at the base of plant to operate emergency descent device, if required. Safety harness to be worn when in Elevated Work Platform.
    • Lanyards and fishing line - All tools/materials had lanyards attached, Fishing line attached to nuts and bolts to prevent objects from falling below on to busy city streets below, Exclusion zones established below works, Work activities and exclusion zones consulted via daily pre-start toolbox talk with all site workers.
