Mirvac named world's most gender equitable company by Equileap
Mirvac has been ranked number one in the world in Equileap’s Global Report on Gender Equality for the first time, leading a global field of 4,000 companies across 19 criteria to take the top spot.
Mirvac’s CEO & Managing Director, Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz, said reaching the number one position globally is the result of a sustained effort and commitment to building a diverse team and inclusive culture.
“Gender equality has been an important focus for Mirvac for the past nine years and we are proud to be recognised as leading the way. This success is the result of prioritising our inclusive culture right across our business, championed from the Board down in a genuine and authentic way – it is not simply a case of stated quotas and policies, but actual implementation and change which is what we have achieved and continue to work on every day.”
The Mirvac team reports regularly against a range of diversity and inclusion targets which look right across the employee lifecycle including gender equitable recruitment practices; ensuring a diverse pipeline of talent and successors; and monitoring promotion, remuneration and turnover data for any signs of bias.
The company has an ongoing investment in women’s mentoring programs and pays close attention to its gender pay parity analysis, where it has maintained a zero pay gap for like-for-like roles for the past six years.
Diana van Maadijk, Co-Founder and CEO of Equileap, said, “We commend Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz and her team at Mirvac on the steps they have taken to enhance gender balance at all levels of the business, and for publishing a range of policies relating to gender equality, including their strategy to fix their gender pay gap.
“As studies continue to highlight the links between performance improvements and gender equality, Mirvac's recent announcement of a rise in net profits comes as no surprise to us. Congratulations to Mirvac on taking the top slot in our 2022 global ranking," said Ms van Maadijk.
In addition to Mirvac’s standard 20 weeks paid parental leave and four weeks paid partner leave, the company pays superannuation on periods of unpaid leave and works with employees to make sure that flexibility is built into parental leave programs.
Mirvac also provides support for any employees affected by domestic and family violence, including paid leave, financial assistance and counselling, as well as training for managers on how to recognise and support employees who may be impacted.
“We are always looking for ways to improve and where we can introduce new industry-leading initiatives to achieve gender diversity. Our work in this space is ongoing and we are committed to continuing to lead the way,” said Ms Lloyd-Hurwitz.
“2021 provided distractions and challenges for us and most businesses globally, but our learnings from the 2020 pandemic conditions lead us to introduce a new Flexibility Charter to ensure that our people have access to a range of working options to suit their lifestyle.
“Moving forward we are broadening our diversity and inclusion strategy focus from gender equality towards creating an environment where everyone feels a strong sense of belonging and confidence they can bring their full selves to work. We know this will help to further strengthen our culture but also has a huge positive impact on engagement and productivity levels,” said Ms Lloyd-Hurwitz.
This year, Equileap researched 4,000 companies globally and ranked them based on 19 gender equality criteria, including gender balance across the workforce, the gender pay gap, paid parental leave and non-discriminatory hiring and promotion, and supply chain safety. These participating companies are all publicly listed and have a market capitalisation of more than USD 2 billion.
